About Us - Who We Are

The church of Christ in Watertown , which began meeting here 34 years ago, is the church one reads about in the New Testament, the first century church Jesus promised to build, Matt. 16:18, fulfilled in Acts 2 on Pentecost. You are cordially invited to come and hear the true gospel and learn the truth for yourself. If you are searching for the "right way," you will be happy to learn we continue "steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine (teaching) and fellowship, in breaking of bread (communion) and prayer" Acts 2:42.

Members are called Christians, Acts. 11:26, who believe in doing "all things according to the pattern" of the “better covenant," Heb.8:5-6 - the New Covenant. Our purpose is to "abide in the doctrine of Christ," 2 John. 9-11, as well as to "contend earnestly for the faith, once and for all delivered" (Jude 3). Because we know 2 Tim. 3:16-17 is true, we believe the Bible is our only rule of faith and practice for today, without addition or subtraction. It is our conviction that everyone should follow the example of the Bereans in Acts 17:11, who "received the word with all readiness of mind, examining the scriptures daily, whether these things were so."

In spite of liberalism, modernism, and negativism, it is possible to KNOW and to believe absolute truth, without doubt, uncertainty, , or skepticism. Jesus said, “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free,” John 8:32. Assurance is also found in John 16:13: “...the Spirit of truth will guide you (apostles) into ALL the truth...” Peter declared this was done by stating: that God “...has given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness.” 2 Peter 1:3. “All” means “totally,” “everything,” “nothing lacking,” and John warns against “adding to,” “or “subtracting from,” inspired truth in the scriptures (Rev. 22:18-19).

Mission work is a strong facet of our local program of work, we believe our responsibility is to "Go into all the world" - locally and worldwide - as we are able (Mark 16:15-16). In keeping with this, we are presently backing and supporting two missionaries from Zambia , Africa .

Jesus left His heavenly home, was born of the Virgin Mary, to become also the son of man. In a public ministry of 3 1/2 years, he taught what He came to accomplish: the Will of His Father, John 6:38. Twelve apostles were chosen to teach that Will, “to every creature in all the world - Matt. 28:19 and Mark 16: 15-16.” Then He ascended back to Heaven to His Father.

We speak where the Bible speaks; we are silent where the Bible is silent.

We do Bible things in Bible ways and call Bible things by Bible names.

"Come, let us reason together,” and get acquainted.

FOR MEMBERS ONLY

Make certain to attend worship at 1426 Washington St., in Watertown, where the faithful brethren meet. Several years ago, Keith Sharp moved here and began an "anti" congregation, minus invitation, minus need, and minus being wanted or necessary. These are the people who oppose cooperative mission work, orphan homes, Herald of Truth, Bible colleges, and eating meals in the meetinghouse, and so forth. They are against World Bible School, African Christian Hospitals, and just about anything that does not fit their "mold." They have spread the notion that this congregation is "liberal" but it is anything but liberal--we follow the Bible in every detail, according "to the pattern" in the New Testament. We do not tolerate false teaching of any sort, nor do we agree with the "change agents" who advocate such perversions of the gospel.
